Unique Identifier

Here is an example of the assessment on a return. SARS displays the unique identifier and that is what should be used on any tax filing from now on.

The unique identifier will be supplied when the return is downloaded for the current year. The tax Return will not be filed unless the unique identifier is correct as SARS now validates the unique identifier. Sky Tax will load the unique identifier from the downloaded return.

Please note SARS only started to check the unique identifier from a few months ago without advising ISV's resulting in the return going for manual intervention. Eventually a SARS official with get to process the manual intervention returns and push it through for assessment.

Unique Identifier has caused manual interventions
The reason for manual interventions are because there is business income on an individual return. Please see the above link.

The reason why this is happening is that SARS allocates a unique identifier to business income. Suddenly without advising anyone they enforced the rule. If the wrong number was used the return went for manual intervention. In many cases notification was not received from SARS, but you may find a note on your e-filing profile.
SARS maintains they will eventually get to all these returns, but it will take time.

We have changed Sky Tax to cater for this. In Sky the unique identifier is retrieved and filed with the return. If the unique identifier is not correct the return will not file.
If you still have returns that have not been assessed please email the requests to pcc@sars.gov.za and insist they help.
